Fear is the Constant

If you're doing work that matters, you're scared. That's not a sign you shouldn't do it. That's a sign that you're close to something real. The stakes are high enough that fear makes sense.

The Fantasy of Fearlessness

People think that once they get to a certain level, once they've proven themselves, the fear goes away. It doesn't. It just gets reoriented. The stakes get bigger. The fear shifts but it doesn't disappear.

The people doing the most interesting work are usually the most scared. That's not a contradiction. That's the truth.

Acting Despite It

The skill isn't eliminating fear. The skill is learning to move forward while you're feeling it. To ship the work even though it's not perfect. To have the conversation even though it might go wrong. To try the thing even though you might fail.

That's courage. Not the absence of fear. The presence of action anyway.
