Everyone Wants It
Everyone wants to feel fulfilled at work. Engaged. Like they're doing something that matters. But very few people actually create that. They talk about it, but they don't make the choices that would create it.
The Uncomfortable Part
Fulfillment requires sacrifice. If you want work that matters, you probably can't optimize for maximum salary. If you want autonomy, you might not be able to take the prestigious job that comes with more oversight.
Every design has tradeoffs. The question is which tradeoff you're willing to make.
Making the Choice
Get clear on what would actually fulfill you. Not what sounds good. What would actually make you feel like your days matter. Then ask: am I willing to sacrifice something for that?
If yes, now you can start making decisions. If no, stop pretending. You've chosen something else. That's fine. Just be honest about it.
Most people refuse to choose. So they get nothing.
